Classification of Artistic Manhole Covers:
Artistic manhole covers generally come in two forms.
The first one is the colored manhole cover,
and the second one is the manhole cover with copper decorative surface.
Let’s start with the first type, namely the colored manhole covers. Colored manhole covers are generally coated with outdoor wear-resistant resins, fluorocarbon materials, etc. on the surface of cast iron manhole covers.
Let’s talk about the second type, the copper-coated manhole cover.
It can be made to have the effects of bronze, brass, or red copper. There are four methods to achieve this. The copper surface manhole covers that can be made are:
1. Cast bronze or red copper, which requires a large amount of copper and will be relatively expensive. It is suitable for long-term use;
2. Use cast iron as the load-bearing foundation, and place a layer of 8-millimeter-thick relief copper plate in the surface grooves. The two materials are physically combined to form a complete finished manhole cover. This method is suitable for small batches and can be used for a long time. It can last for 6-8 years without wearing out, and even if it is worn out, it still looks good, making it suitable for long-term use;
3. Use cast iron to cast patterns and characters, and then laser coat 0.5 – 1 millimeter thick bronze, brass, or red copper on the surface to reduce production costs. It can be used for 1 year before wearing out, but it is very cheap and not suitable for long-term use;
4. Use cast iron to cast patterns and characters, and then electroplate 0.1 millimeter thick bronze, brass, or red copper on the surface to reduce production costs. It can be used for 1 year before wearing out, but it is very cheap and not suitable for long-term use.
